Leviticus Chapter 24

THE TORAH

LEVITICUS

VAYIKRA

Leviticus (Vayikra in Hebrew), the third book in the Torah (First five books of Moses). Vayikra or Leviticus means “And G-d Called.”

Be enlightened in this book, that G-d is holy. Thus, requires him who comes or approaches G-d must be holy. Given this instruction, the Kohanim (Priests) are called to be intermediaries between G-d and the Children of Israel.

Offerings or sacrifices are elaborated in great lengths in the entire book of Leviticus. Now, does this aligns with how Jesus was offered? Let’s find out…

Chapter 24

Leviticus Chapter 24 Informs of Using G-d’s Name in Vain or Inappropriately (i.e. OMG, G-d damn & etc.)

In Exodus 23:13 There Is A Warning Of Not Mentioning The Name Of Other G-d’s (i.e. Jesus)

In this chapter, is the mention of the Name of the One True G-d in casual manner or in vain, as it is mentioned in the 10 Commandments (Exodus chapter 20:7).

Hence, Hashem or G-d is used to avoid such type of sin either intentional or unintentional.

“The Menorah”
“Show-bread”
“The Blasphemer”

Hashem spoke to Moses, saying: Command the Children of Israel that they shall take for you pure oil, pressed, for illumination, to kindle a continual lamp.
24:1-2
Outside the Partition of the Testimony, in the Tent of Meeting, Aaron shall arrange it, from evening to morning, before Hashem, continually; an eternal decree for your generations.
24:3
On the pure Menorah shall he arrange the lamps, before Hashem, continually.
:4
You shall take fine flour and bake it into twelve loaves, each loaf shall be two tenth-ephah.
:5
You shall place them in two stacks, six in each stack, upon the pure Table, before Hashem.
:6
Each and every Sabbath he shall arrange them before Hashem continually, from the Children of Israel as an eternal covenant.
:8
The son of the Israelite woman pronounced the Name and blasphemed – so they brought him to Moses; the name of his mother was Shelomis daughter of Divri, of the tribe of Dan.
:12
Hashem spoke to Moses, saying: Remove the blasphemer to the outside of the camp, and all those who heard shall lean their hands upon his head: The entire assembly shall stone him.
:13-14
… Any man who will blaspheme his God shall bear his sin;
:15
and one who pronounces blasphemously the Name of Hashem shall be put to death, the entire assembly shall surely stone him; proselyte and native alike, when he blasphemes the Name, he shall be put to death.
:16
And a man – if he strikes mortally any human life, he shall be put to death.
:17
And if a man inflicts a wound in his fellow, as he did, so shall be done to him:
:19
a break for a break, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth; just as he will have inflicted a wound on a person, so shall be inflicted upon him.
:20
One who strikes an animal shall make restitution, and one who strikes a person shall be put to death.
:21
There shall be one law for you, it shall be for proselyte and native alike, for I Hashem, am your God.
:22

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 Command the children of Israel, and they shall take to you pure olive oil, crushed for lighting, to kindle the lamps continually.
3 Outside the dividing curtain of the testimony in the Tent of Meeting, Aaron shall set it up before the Lord from evening to morning continually. [This shall be] an eternal statute for your generations.
4 Upon the pure menorah, he shall set up the lamps, before the Lord, continually.
5 And you shall take fine flour and bake it [into] twelve loaves. Each loaf shall be [made from] two tenths [of an ephah of flour].
6 And you place them in two stacks, six in each stack, upon the pure table, before the Lord.
7 And you shall place pure frankincense alongside each stack, and it shall be a reminder for the bread, a fire offering to the Lord.
8 Each and every Sabbath day, he shall set it up before the Lord [to be there] continuously, from the children of Israel an eternal covenant.
9 And it shall belong to Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place, for it is holy of holies for him, among the fire offerings of the Lord, an eternal statute.
10 Now, the son of an Israelite woman and he was the son of an Egyptian man went out among the children of Israel, and they quarreled in the camp this son of the Israelite woman, and an Israelite man.
11 And the son of the Israelite woman pronounced the [Divine] Name and cursed. So they brought him to Moses. His mother’s name was Shelomith the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.
12 They placed him in the guardhouse, [until his sentence would] be specified to them by the word of the Lord.
13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
14 Take the blasphemer outside the camp, and all who heard [his blasphemy] shall lean their hands on his head. And the entire community shall stone him.
15 And to the children of Israel, you shall speak, saying: Any man who blasphemes his God shall bear his sin.
16 And one who blasphemously pronounces the Name of the Lord, shall be put to death; the entire community shall stone him; convert and resident alike if he pronounces the [Divine] Name, he shall be put to death.
17 And if a man strikes down any human being he shall be put to death.
18 And one who slays an animal shall pay for it [the value of] a life for the life [he took].
19 And a man who inflicts an injury upon his fellow man just as he did, so shall be done to him [namely,]
20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. Just as he inflicted an injury upon a person, so shall it be inflicted upon him.
21 And one who injures an animal shall pay for it. And one who strikes a person shall be put to death.
22 One law shall be exacted for you, convert and resident alike, for I am the Lord, your God.
23 And Moses told [all this] to the children of Israel. So they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him, and the children of Israel did just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
