Shoftim in Hebrew
Judges chronicles the history of the Israelites during the period between the conquest of the Land of Israel and the establishment of the monarchy. It contains accounts of the heroic deeds of various judges who led and rescued the Israelites from their enemies (Deborah, Gideon and Samson notably).
The book also provides valuable insights into the spiritual and moral challenges faced by the Israelites during that time. The cycle of sin is clearly seen in the book of Judges (Shoftim in Hebrew).
The Israelites as a nation had their shortcomings. But they stayed true to the Torah and its Giver. Hence, the combined years of peace and righteousness far outnumbered the years of their failure and persecution.
