Joshua Chapter 3

THE PROPHETS

Joshua

Yehoshua

The Book of Joshua, in the Hebrew-Jewish Bible, narrates the entry of the Children of Israel into the Promised Land of Canaan and their conquest and partition of the land under the leadership of Joshua, as Moses’ successor. It details the Israelites’ miraculous crossing of the Jordan River, the fall of Jericho, the battles of Ai and Gibeon, and the division of the land among the twelve tribes. Joshua resonates with Moses, in which he exhorts the Israelites to remain faithful to G-d and His commandments.

Joshua Chapter 3 May Not Be As Popular Or Widely Read And Taught As Exodus Chapter 20

G-d Is In Your Midst

As it was in Genesis, G-d descends and ascends without the need to be:
1. Born of a virgin.
2. Crucified and died.
3. To live again and ascend to heaven and back again and again and again; yet…
4. Will come back yet again.

If you are told it was prophesied, read further to expose its out-of-context if not manipulated references.

Joshua arose early in the morning, and they journeyed from Shittim and arrived at the Jordan, he and all the Children of Israel, and they lodged there before they crossed.
3:1
It was at the end of three days that the marshals circulated in the midst of the camp.
3:2
They commanded the people, saying, “When you see the Ark of the Covenant of Hashem, your God, and the Kohanim, the Levites, carrying it, then you shall move from your place and follow it.
3:3
Joshua said to the people, “Prepare yourselves, for tomorrow Hashem will do wonders in your midst.”
:5
Hashem said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, that they may know that just as I was with Moses, so will I be with you.
:7
Joshua said, “Through this you will know that the Living God is in your midst and He will surely drive away from before you the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Hivvite and the Perizzite and the Girgashite and the Amorite and the Jebusite.
:10
Behold, the Ark of the Covenant of the Master of all the earth is passing before you in the Jordan.
:11
It shall happen, just as the soles of the feet of the Kohanim, the bearers of the Ark of Hashem, Master of the entire earth, rest in the waters of Jordan, the waters of the Jordan will be cut off — the waters that descend from upstream — and they will stand as one column.”
:13
the waters descending from upstream stood still and they rose up in one column, very far from Adam, the city that is near Zarethan; and [the water] that descends to the sea of the plain, the Dead Sea, ceased, opposite Jericho.
:16
The Kohanim, the bearers of the Ark of the Covenant of Hashem, stood firmly on dry ground, in the middle of the Jordan, all Israel crossing on dry ground until the entire nation finished crossing the Jordan.
:17

1 And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and they moved from Shittim and came to the Jordan, he and all the people of Israel; and they lodged before they crossed over.
2 And it was at the end of three days, that the officers went through the midst of the camp.
3 And they commanded the people, saying: When you see the Ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then you shall move from your place and go after it.
4 But there shall be a distance between you and it, just two thousand cubits by measure; do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you will go; for you have not passed this way before.
5 And Joshua said to the people; Prepare yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.
6 And Joshua said to the priests, saying: Carry the Ark of the covenant, and pass before the people. And they carried the Ark of the covenant, and went before the people.
7 And the Lord said to Joshua: This day I will begin to make you great in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that as I was with Moses, so will I be with you.
8 And you shall command the priests that bear the Ark of the covenant, saying, When you come to the edge of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.
9 And Joshua said to the children of Israel, Come here, and hear the words of the Lord your God.
10 And Joshua said, By this you shall know that the living God is in your midst, and He will certainly drive out the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites from before you.
11 Behold, the Ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing ahead of you in the Jordan.
12 And now take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, a man for every tribe.
13 And it shall be, when the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the Ark of the Lord, Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from above, shall stand in one heap.
14 And it was, when the people moved from their tents, to cross the Jordan, and the priests bearing the Ark of the covenant were before the people.
15 And when the bearers of the Ark came to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the Ark were dipped in the edge of the water, and the Jordan overflows all its banks all the time of harvest.
16 And the waters which came down from above stood and rose up in one column, very far from Adam, the city which is beside Zarethan; and those that descended to the sea of the plain, the Salt Sea (Dead Sea), were completely cut off, and the people passed over opposite Jericho.
17 And the priests that bore the Ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm arranged on the dry land in the midst of the Jordan, and all Israel passed over on dry ground, until the whole nation had completely passed over the Jordan.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
