Joshua Chapter 11

THE PROPHETS

Joshua

Yehoshua

The Book of Joshua, in the Hebrew-Jewish Bible, narrates the entry of the Children of Israel into the Promised Land of Canaan and their conquest and partition of the land under the leadership of Joshua, as Moses’ successor. It details the Israelites’ miraculous crossing of the Jordan River, the fall of Jericho, the battles of Ai and Gibeon, and the division of the land among the twelve tribes. Joshua resonates with Moses, in which he exhorts the Israelites to remain faithful to G-d and His commandments.

Chapter 11

11th Chapter of Joshua Guides us on How G-d’s Word is to be Treated, Fulfilled and Accomplished

Joshua’s Obedience Exhibited

It cannot be as vivid as this.

This is the basis if one is of G-d or not – full obedience to His commands.

Not adding, removing, turning right, left, manipulating, corrupting to fit people’s liking, convenience and comfort as the Greek book – New Testament is good at (v. 15).

“The Conquest of the North”
“Summary of the Conquests”

All these kings gathered [together]; they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom to wage war with Israel.
11:5
Hashem said to Joshua, “Do not fear them, for tomorrow at this time I will deliver them all as corpses before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots in fire.”
:6
Joshua dealt with them as Hashem had told him; he hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots in fire.
:9
Joshua conquered all the cities of these kings and all their kings; he struck them with the edge of the sword, destroying them, as Moses the servant of Hashem had commanded.
:12
All the spoils of these cities and the livestock, the Children of Israel took for themselves as booty; but they struck every man by the edge of the sword until they exterminate them. They did not leave any soul.
:14
As Hashem had commanded Moses His servants, so Moses commanded Joshua; and so Joshua did. He did not omit a thing of all that Hashem had commanded Moses.
:15
There was not a city that made peace with the Children of Israel except for the Hivvite inhabitants of Gibeon; they took everything in battle.
:19
For it was from Hashem, to harden their hearts toward battle against Israel, in order to destroy them — that they not find favor — so that they would be exterminated as Hashem had commanded Moses.
:20
No Anakim were left in the land of the Children of Israel; however, in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod they remained.
:22
Thus, Joshua took the entire land, according to all that Hashem had spoken to Moses. Joshua gave it to Israel as a heritage, according to their divisions, to their tribes. The land rested from war.
:23

1 And it was, when Jabin king of Hazor heard, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph.
2 And to the kings that were on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinnaroth, and in the valley, and in the regions of Dor on the west.
3 (To) the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and (to) the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and (to) the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.
4 And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, many people, as the sand that is upon the seashore in multitude, with many horses and chariots.
5 And all these kings met together, they came and camped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.
6 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Be not afraid of them, for tomorrow at this time, I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You shall cripple their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.”
7 And Joshua, and all the people of war with him, came upon them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.
8 And the Lord delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they smote them, and chased them to great Zidon, and to Misrephoth-maim, and to the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them until they left them none remaining.
9 And Joshua did to them as the Lord had bidden him: he crippled their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.
10 And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote its king with the sword, for Hazor was formerly the head of all these kingdoms.
11 And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was not a soul left. And he burnt Hazor with fire.
12 And all the cities of these kings, and all their kings, Joshua took, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded.
13 But all the cities that stood in their strength, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only, did Joshua burn.
14 And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey to themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they destroyed them, they did not leave over a soul.
15 As the Lord commanded Moses His servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.
16 And Joshua took all this land: the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and its valley.
17 From the divided smooth mount that goes up to Seir, to Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon; and all their kings he took, and smote them, and put them to death.
18 Joshua made war a long time with all these kings.
19 There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon; they took all in battle.
20 For it was from the Lord to harden their hearts, (that they should come) against Israel in battle, that they might destroy them completely, and that they might have no favor, that they might destroy them as the Lord had commanded Moses.
21 And at that time, Joshua came and cut off the ‘Anakim from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from ‘Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel; Joshua destroyed them completely with their cities.
22 There was no ‘Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, they remained.
23 And Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had spoken to Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
