JONAH

ONE CHAPTER A DAY

On Daily Holy Bible Reading

YONAH

Jonah (Yonah in Hebrew), not inclined to proclaim salvation to Nineveh, he decided to escape from what G-d commanded him to do.

It took a big fish to first swallow Jonah for him to carry out his mission.

In Accordance With G-d's Word

Jonah Fulfills His Mission

“Repentance” not “Human Sacrifice” can save you.

Something that you will never hear in churches.

Doubting still? Read or listen in plain words…

“Nineveh Repents”

“G-d Forgives”

The word of Hashem came to Jonah a second time, saying: “Arise! Go to Nineveh the great city, and call out against her the proclamation that I tell you.”
3:1-2
So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, in accordance with God’s word. …
3:3
… then he called out and said, “Forty days more and Nineveh shall be overturned!”
:4
The people of Nineveh believed in God, so they proclaimed a fast and donned sackcloth, from their great to their small.
:5
The matter reached the king of Nineveh; he rose from his throne, removed his robe from upon himself, covered himself with sackcloth and sat on the ashes,
:6
Both man and animal shall cover themselves with sackcloth; and they shall call out mightily to God. Every man shall turn back from his evil way, and from the robbery that is in their hands.
:8
And God saw their deeds, that they repented from their evil way; and God relented concerning the evil He had said He would bring upon them, and did not do it.
:10

1 And the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying:
2 Arise, go to Nineveh the great city, and proclaim upon it the proclamation that I speak to you.
3 And Jonah arose and went to Nineveh according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a walk of three days.
4 And Jonah commenced to come into the city, one day’s walk, and he proclaimed and said, “In another forty days Nineveh shall be overturned!”
5 And the people of Nineveh believed in God, and they proclaimed a fast and donned sackcloth, from their greatest to their smallest.
6 And the word reached the king of Nineveh, whereupon he rose from his throne, took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat on the ashes.
7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published throughout Nineveh: By the counsel of the king and his nobles, saying: Neither man nor beast, neither cattle nor sheep shall taste anything; they shall not graze, neither shall they drink water.
8 And they shall cover themselves with sackcloth, both man and beast, and they shall call mightily to God, and everyone shall repent of his evil way and of the dishonest gain which is in their hands.
9 Whoever knows shall repent, and God will relent, and He will return from His burning wrath, and we will not perish.
10 And God saw their deeds, that they had repented of their evil way, and the Lord relented concerning the evil that He had spoken to do to them, and He did not do it.

Fear Hashem

LISTEN HERE

He succeeded in causing the inhabitants of Nineveh to sincerely repent of their evil ways. G-d spared Nineveh because of their repentance.

But it displeased Jonah. Since Nineveh is one of Israel’s bitter enemies.

Along G-d made a plant to grow and wither. So that Jonah would have a better understanding about sincere repentance and Nineveh.

G-d is merciful to all who return to Him sincerely.
