On Daily Holy Bible Reading

YONAH

Jonah (Yonah in Hebrew), not inclined to proclaim salvation to Nineveh, he decided to escape from what G-d commanded him to do.

It took a big fish to first swallow Jonah for him to carry out his mission.

Jonah Prays And Confesses To G-d

If you have not reached difficult times crying out to G-d, what better time to confess your sins than now?

Sad that this chapter or even Jonah is linked to Jesus’ so called death and resurrection.

Note that this chapter or book is not a Messianic prophecy.

“Prayer And Vows”

Hashem designated a large fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah remained in the fish’s innards for three days and three nights.
2:1
Jonah prayed to Hashem, his God, from the fish’s innards, and said: I called, in my distress, to Hashem, and He answered me; From the belly of the grave I cried out — You heard my voice.
:2-3
Then I said [to myself], ‘I was driven from before Your eyes, but I will again gaze at Your Holy Temple!’
:5
When my soul was faint within me, I remembered Hashem; My prayer came to You, to Your Holy Temple.
:8
They watch false vanities, they forsake their kindness.
:9
And as for me, with a voice of thanksgiving I will make sacrifices to You. What I have vowed I will fulfill for the salvation which is Hashem’s.
:10

1 And the Lord appointed a huge fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights.
2 And Jonah prayed to the Lord his God, from the belly of the fish.
3 And he said: I called out from my distress to the Lord, and He answered me; from the belly of the grave I cried out, You heard my voice.
4 And You cast me into the deep in the heart of the seas, and a river surrounded me; all Your breakers and Your waves passed over me.
5 And I said, “I have been driven away from before Your eyes,” Indeed, I will continue to gaze upon Your Holy Temple.
6 Water has surrounded me even to the soul, the deep encompassed me; the Red Sea hangs over my head.
7 To the bottom of the mountains I descended, the earth-its bars are closed on me forever; but You brought up my life from Gehinnom, O Lord, my God.
8 When my soul grew faint upon me, I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came to You to Your Holy Temple.
9 Those who keep worthless futilities abandon their kindness.
10 But I-with a voice of thanks will I sacrifice to You; what I vowed I will pay, for the salvation of the Lord.
11 And the Lord said to the fish, and it spewed Jonah onto the dry land.

Fear Hashem

LISTEN HERE

He succeeded in causing the inhabitants of Nineveh to sincerely repent of their evil ways. G-d spared Nineveh because of their repentance.

But it displeased Jonah. Since Nineveh is one of Israel’s bitter enemies.

Along G-d made a plant to grow and wither. So that Jonah would have a better understanding about sincere repentance and Nineveh.

G-d is merciful to all who return to Him sincerely.
