“The Fate Of Babylonia”
“Israel Is Redeemed”
The word that Hashem spoke concerning Babylonia, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, through the hand of Jeremiah the prophets:
50:1
… her idols are ashamed, her gods are devastated,
:2
In those days and at that time — the word of Hashem — the Children of Israel will come, they together with the Children of Judah; they will walk along crying, they will seek out Hashem, their God.
:4
They will ask about Zion; their faces will be turned toward it; [and they will say,] ‘Come, be joined to Hashem, with an eternal covenant, never to be forgotten.’
:5
All who found them devoured them, and their enemies said, ‘We feel no guilt; because they sinned against Hashem, the Abode of righteousness, the hope of their forefathers, Hashem.’
:7
because you are glad, because you exult, you tramplers of My heritage; …
:11
Array yourselves for battle against Babylonia all around, all you who draw the bow; shoot at her, do not spare arrows; for she has sinned to Hashem.
:14
… Because it is the vengeance of Hashem; be avenged against her! Do to her as she did!
:15
Israel is [like] scattered sheep — lions have dispersed them; the first one, the king of Assyria, devoured him, and this last one, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylonia, chewed up the bones.
:17
Therefore, thus said Hashem, Master of Legions, God of Israel: Behold, I will punish the king of Babylonia and his land, just as I punished the king of Assyria.
:18
And I will return Israel to its abode, and he will graze in the Carmel and in the Bashan; and in Mount Ephraim and in the Gilead his soul will be satiated.
:19
In those days and at that time — the word of Hashem — the iniquity of Israel will be sought but it will not be there, and the transgressions of Judah, but they will not be found; for I will forgive those whom I will leave over.
:20
I laid a snare for you and you were trapped in it, O Babylonia, and you were unaware. You have been found and even seized, for you provoked Hashem.
:24
There is a sound of fleeing people and fugitives from the land of Babylonia to relate in Zion the revenge of Hashem, our God, the revenge of His Sanctuary.
:28
… Repay her according to her actions; do unto her according to all that she has done, for she has acted wickedly toward Hashem, toward the Holy One of Israel.
:29
Behold, I am against you, O wicked one — the word of my Lord, Hashem/Elohim, Master of Legions — for your day has arrived, the time for Me to punish you.
:31
Thus said Hashem, Master of Legions: The Children of Israel and the Children of Judah are oppressed together; all their captors hold them fast and refuse to let them free.
:33
A dry heat against its waters; let them evaporate! For it is a land of graven idols, and they are mad over dread idols.
:38
Like Hashem’s overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbors — the word of Hashem — where no man shall live and no human shall sojourn.
:40
The king of Babylonia heard of their renown and his hands weakened; consternation seizes him, and pains like a woman in childbirth.
:43
For who is like Me? Who can challenge Me? And who is the shepherd who can stand before Me?
:44
1 Concerning the children of Ammon. So said the Lord: Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir? Why has Malcam taken possession of Gad, and his people have settled his cities?
2 Therefore, behold days are coming, says the Lord, and I will cause an alarm of war to be heard against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and it shall become a desolate mound, and its villages shall be burnt with fire, and Israel shall possess those who have possessed their possessions, says the Lord.
3 Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai has been spoiled, cry out, O villages of Rabbah, gird yourselves with sackcloth, lament and mobilize in companies, for Malcam shall go into exile, his priests and his princes together.
4 Why do you boast about the valleys? Your valley is flowing, O backsliding daughter, who depends on her treasures, saying, “Who shall come to me?”
5 Behold I bring fright upon you, says the Lord God of Hosts, from all those around you, and you shall be driven, each man forward, and no one shall take in the wanderer.
6 And afterwards, I will return the captivity of the children of Ammon, says the Lord.
7 Concerning Edom, So said the Lord of Hosts: Is there no more wisdom in the south? Counsel is lost from the sons, their wisdom has spoiled.
8 Flee! Clear out! Dwell deep, O dwellers of Dedan, for the misfortune of Esau have I brought upon him, the times I have visited upon him.
9 If vintagers have come upon you, will they not leave over gleaning grapes? If thieves at night, they destroy until they have enough.
10 For I exposed Esau, I revealed his hidden places, and he could not hide; his seed, his brothers, and his neighbors were spoiled, and he is not here.
11 Leave your orphans, I will sustain them, and your widows shall trust in Me.
12 For so said the Lord: Behold, [if] those who did not deserve to drink the cup nevertheless shall drink; should you then be cleared? You shall not be cleared, but you shall surely drink.
13 For by Myself have I sworn, says the Lord, that Bozrah shall become desolation, reproach, waste, and a curse, and all her cities shall become perpetual wastelands.
14 I have heard tidings from the Lord, and an emissary is sent among the nations: Assemble and come upon her, and arise for war!
15 For, behold, I have made you small among the nations, despised among man.
16 Your hastiness has enticed you, the wickedness of your heart, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill; if you raise your nest like an eagle, from there will I bring you down, says the Lord.
17 And Edom shall become a desolation; whoever passes by her shall be astonished and shall hiss at all her plagues.
18 Like the overturning of Sodom and Gemorrah and her neighbors, said the Lord, no man shall dwell there, and no man shall sojourn there.
19 Behold, as a lion that ascends from the heights of the Jordan to a strong dwelling place, for I will bring the moment when I will hasten him away from her, and he who is chosen I will appoint to her, for who is like Me and who will appoint Me a time, and who is a shepherd who will stand before Me?
20 Therefore, hearken to the counsel of the Lord, which He advised concerning Edom, and His plans that He planned concerning the dwellers of the south, if the young of the flock will not drag them, if He will not make desolate their dwellings with them.
21 From the sound of their fall, the earth quaked; a cry whose sound was heard in the Red Sea.
22 Behold like an eagle he shall ascend and soar, and he shall spread his wings over Bozrah, and the heart of the mighty men of Edom on that day shall be like the heart of a travailing woman.
23 Concerning Damascus, Hamath and Arpad are shamed for they have heard bad news, they melted; there is worry in the sea, it cannot be quiet.
24 Damascus has become feeble, she has turned to flee, and trembling has seized her: distress and pangs seized her like a woman in confinement.
25 “How was the city of praise not fortified, the city of my joy?”
26 Therefore, her youths shall fall in her broad places, and all her warriors shall be destroyed on that day, says the Lord of Hosts.
27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall consume the palaces of the Ben-hadad.
28 Concerning Kedar and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon smote. So said the Lord: Go up to Kedar and spoil the children of the east.
29 Their tents and their flocks they shall take, their curtains and all their utensils and their camels they shall take for themselves, and they shall call upon them a terror on every side.
30 Flee, wander far off, dwell deep, inhabitants of Kedar, says the Lord, for Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has taken counsel against you and has devised a plot against you.
31 “Rise and go up to a peaceful nation, dwelling confidently,” says the Lord; he has neither doors nor bars, they dwell alone.
32 And their camels shall be for a prey and the multitude of their cattle for spoil, and I will scatter them in all directions, cast to the ends, and from all its sides I will bring their misfortune, says the Lord.
33 And Hazor shall become a habitat of jackals, desolate to eternity; neither shall any man dwell there nor shall any man sojourn therein.
34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah the king of Judah, saying:
35 So said the Lord of Hosts: Behold I am breaking the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.
36 And I will bring against Elam four winds from the four ends of the heavens, and I will scatter them to all these winds, and there shall be no nation where the exiles of Elam shall not come.
37 And I will break Elam before their enemies and before those who seek their lives, and I will bring upon them evil-the kindling of My wrath, says the Lord, and I will send the sword after them until I completely destroy them.
38 And I will place My throne in Elam and I will destroy from there a king and princes, says the Lord.
39 And it shall be at the end of days, [that] I will return the captivity of Elam, says the Lord.
