Babylonian’s Exile

Get down and sit on the dirt, O virgin daughter of Babylonia; sit on the ground without a chair, O daughter of Chaldeans; for they will no longer call you ‘delicate and dainty.’
47:1
Get a millstone and grind flour, expose your hair and bare a leg; expose a thigh to cross through rivers.
47:2
Your nakedness will be exposed and your embarrassment will be seen; I will take revenge and I will not be entreated by man.
47:3
Our Redeemer, Whose Name is Hashem, Master of Legions, the Holy One of Israel!
:4
I became angry at My people; I degraded My heritage and delivered them into your hand; You showed them no compassion; you made your yoke very heavy upon the aged.
:6
… because of the abundance of your witchcraft and the great intensity of your enchantments.
:9
You trusted in your evil; you said, ‘No one sees me.’ Your wisdom and your knowledge — that is what emboldened you; you said in your heart, ‘Only I and none but me!’
:10
You have wearied yourself with your many counselors; let them stand up for you now and save you — the astrologers, the stargazers, who foretell by new moons — part of what will befall you!
:13
so were [those advisers] with whom you toiled. The merchants with whom you dealt since your youth have scattered, each one in his own direction; there is no one to save you.
:15

1 Descend and sit on the dust, virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground without a throne, daughter of the Chaldees, for no longer shall they call you tender and delicate.
2 Take millstones and grind flour, bare your covered parts, uncover the paths, bare [your] leg, cross rivers.
3 Your nakedness shall be uncovered; yea your shame shall be seen; I will take revenge and I will not entreat any man.
4 Our redeemer, the Lord of Hosts is His name, the Holy One of Israel.
5 Sit silently and come into the darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans, for they shall no longer call you mistress of kingdoms.
6 I became wroth with My people, I violated My heritage, and I delivered them into your hand; you did not show them mercy; on the aged you made your yoke very heavy.
7 And you said, “I will forever be a mistress,” until you did not take these to heart, you did not remember its end.
8 And now, hearken to this, delicate one, who sits securely, who says to herself, “I am [it], and there is none besides me; I will not sit [as] a widow; neither will I know bereavement.”
9 And these two shall come to you in a second in one day, bereavement and widowhood; in their full measure, they shall come upon you with the multitude of your sorceries, with the great abundance of your charms.
10 And you trusted in your evil, you said, “No one sees me.” Your wisdom and your knowledge-that perverted you. And you said to yourself, “I am [it], and there is none besides me.”
11 And evil shall come upon you, you shall not know how to remove it by prayer; and calamity shall befall you, you shall not know how to rid yourself of it; and desolation shall come upon you suddenly, you shall not know.
12 Stand now with your charms and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you toiled since your youth; perhaps you will be able to help, perhaps you will gain strength.
13 You have wearied with the multitude of your counsels; let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators of what will come upon you, stand up and save you.
14 Behold they were like stubble, fire burnt them, they shall not save themselves from the power of the flame; there is no coal by which to warm oneself, [or] fire opposite which to sit.
15 So were they to you, those for whom you toiled; your traffickers since your youth, each one strayed to his side, no one saves you.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
