Chapter 24
II Kings Chapter 24 Proves that G-d Alone is in Control of Everything — For He Created Evil
Whether For Good Or For Evil G-d Uses Person Or People To Fulfill His Spoken Words
If you are righteous in His eyes, certainly He will use you for good.
But if you are righteous only in your own eyes, He will use you still – but on the contrary..
“G-d’s Agent to Annihilate — Nebuchadnezzar”
“Jehoiachin, King of Judah”
“Zedekiah, King of Judah”
In his days Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylonia, invaded; Jehoiakim became a vassal to him for three years, but then he reneged and rebelled against him.
24:1
Hashem incited against him troops of Chaldeans, troops of Aram, troops of Moab and troops of the Children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to annihilate it, in accordance with the word of Hashem that He had spoken through His servants the prophets.
24:2
Indeed, the [decree] was issued against Judah by the word of Hashem, to remove them from His presence, for the sins of Manasseh, for everything that he had done,
24:3
and also [for] the innocent blood that he had shed; he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and Hashem did not want to forgive.
:4
Jehoiakim lay with his forefathers, and his son Jehoiachin reigned in his place.
:6
He did what was evil in the eyes of Hashem, like everything that his father had done.
:9
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylonia came upon the city while his servants were besieging it.
:11
… — and the king of Babylonia took him [captive], in the eighth year of his reign.
:12
He also removed from there all the treasures of the Temple of Hashem and the treasures of the king’s palace, and he dismantled all the golden articles that Solomon king of Israel had made in the Sanctuary of Hashem, as Hashem had said.
:13
He exiled all of Jerusalem — …
:14
He exiled Jehoiachin to Babylonia; and the king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officers, and the noblemen of the land he brought into exile from Jerusalem to Babylonia.
:15
The king of Babylonia then crowned Mattaniah, [Jehoiachin’s] uncle, in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah.
:17
He did what was evil in the eyes of Hashem, like everything that Jehoiakim had done.
:19
It was because the wrath of Hashem was upon Jerusalem and Judah until He would cast them away from His presence that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylonia.
:20
1 In his days, Nebuchadnezzar went up, and Jehoiakim was his vassal for three years, then he turned and rebelled against him.
2 And the Lord incited against him bands of Chaldeans and bands of Arameans and bands of Moabites and bands of the children of Ammon, and he incited them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the Lord which He had spoken through His servants, the prophets.
3 Indeed, it was by the order of the Lord against Judah to remove them from before Him, because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done.
4 And also [because of] the innocent blood that he had shed, and he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood and the Lord did not want to forgive.
5 And the rest of the events of Jehoiakim and all that he did are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.
6 And Jehoiakim slept with his forefathers, and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.
7 And the king of Egypt no longer went out of his land, for the king of Babylonia had taken from the river of Egypt until the Euphrates River, all that belonged to the king of Egypt.
8 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem, and his mother’s name was Nehushta the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.
9 And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord like all that his father had done.
10 At that time, the servants of Nebuchadnezzar went up against Jerusalem and the city was brought under siege.
11 And Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylonia came to the city, and his servants were besieging it.
12 And Jehoiachin, the king of Judah, came out to the king of Babylonia, he and his mother and his servants and his officers and his mighty warriors, and the king of Babylonia took him in the eighth year of his reign.
13 And he removed from there all the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s palace, and he stripped off all the golden decorations that Solomon king of Israel had made in the Temple of the Lord, as the Lord had spoken.
14 And he exiled all Jerusalem and all the officers and all the mighty warriors, ten thousand exiles, and all the craftsmen and the sentries of the gates. No one remained except the poorest of the people of the land.
15 And he exiled Jehoiachin to Babylon, and the king’s mother and the king’s wives, and his officers and the dignitaries of the land, he led in exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.
16 And all the military men seven thousand, and the craftsmen and the gate sentries one thousand, all mighty warriors; and the king of Babylonia brought them into exile to Babylon.
17 And the king of Babylonia crowned Mattaniah his uncle in his stead, and changed his name to Zedekiah.
18 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah from Libnah.
19 And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord, like all that Jehoiakim had done.
20 Because the wrath of the Lord was against Jerusalem and against Judah until He cast them away from before His presence, Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylonia.
