II Kings Chapter 20 on King Hezekiah’s Fate, Mistake and Death

Sickness, Diseases, Misfortunes And Other Unpleasant Occurrences

All this pain and suffering may fall even on the righteous person.

As how fame, fortune and success in life may fall on wicked or evil person.

But G-d is in control. No one truly knows what is behind G-d’s action be it pro or anti.

“Hezekiah’s Illness, Recovery, Mishap and Demise”

In those days Hezekiah became deathly ill. Isaiah son of Amoz, the prophet, came to him and said to him, “Thus said Hashem: instruct your household, for you shall die; and you shall not live.”
20:1
[Hezekiah] then turned his face to the wall and prayed to Hashem, saying, “Please, Hashem, remember now that I have walked before You faithfully and wholeheartedly, and I have done what is good in Your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept an intense weeping.
:2-3
And it was when Isaiah had not yet left the middle courtyard: the word of Hashem came to him, saying, “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of My people, ‘Thus said Hashem, the God of your forefather David: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I am healing you; on the third day you will go up to the Temple of Hashem.
:4-5
I will add fifteen years to your life and I will rescue you and this city from the grip of the king of Assyria. I will protect this city for My sake and for the sake of My servant David.’”
:6
Isaiah said, “This is the sign for you from Hashem that Hashem will do the deed of which He spoke: Shall the shade move ten degrees ahead [on the clock], or shall it go back ten degrees?”
:9
Hezekiah said, “It is easier for the shade to be extended ten degrees. No — rather let the shade turn backwards ten degrees.”
:10
Isaiah the prophet called out unto Hashem, and He turned the shade backward by ten degrees from the levels where it had descended [on the sun-clock] of Ahaz.
:11
At that time Berodach-baladan son of Baladan, the king of Babylonia, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he had heard that Hezekiah was ill.
:12
Hezekiah hearkened to them and showed them his whole treasure house — the silver, the gold, the spices, the fine oil, his warehouse, and everything that was found in his treasuries; there was nothing that Hezekiah did not show them in his palace and in all his realm.
:13
Isaiah then said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of Hashem: Behold, the days are coming when everything in your house, and that which your forefathers have accumulated until this day, will be carried off to Babylonia. Not a thing will be left.’ said Hashem.
:16-17
‘And they will also take some of your children who will issue from you, whom you will beget, and they shall become officers in the palace of the king of Babylonia.’”
:18
Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of Hashem that you have spoken is good”; and he said [to himself], “Is it not true that there will be peace and truth in my days?”
:19
Hezekiah lay with his forefathers, and his son Manasseh reigned in his place.
:21

1 In those days Hezekiah became critically ill, when Isaiah the son of Amoz the prophet came to him, and said to him, “So has the Lord said, ‘Give orders to your household, for you are going to die and you shall not live.’ “
2 And he turned his face toward the wall and prayed to the Lord, saying,
3 “Please, O Lord, remember now, how I walked before You truly and wholeheartedly, and I did what is good in Your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept profusely.
4 And it was when Isaiah had not gone out to the inner court, and the word of the Lord came to him, saying,
5 “Return and say to Hezekiah the ruler of My people, ‘So has the Lord God of your father David said, “I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold I shall heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.
6 And I will add fifteen years to your life and I will save you from the hand of the king of Assyria, I will save you and this city, and I will protect this city for My sake and for the sake of My servant David.’ “
7 And Isaiah said, “Take a cake of pressed figs.” And they took [one] and placed it on the boil, and it was healed.
8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “What is the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I will go up to the house of the Lord on the third day?”
9 And Isaiah said, “This is your sign from the Lord, that the Lord will fulfill the word that He spoke. Shall the shade advance ten steps or shall it come back ten steps?”
10 And Hezekiah said, “It is easy for the shade to advance ten steps. Not so; let it return ten steps.”
11 And the prophet Isaiah called to the Lord, and He brought back the shade on the steps that it had gone down on the steps of Ahaz, backwards ten steps.
12 At that time, Berodach-baladan the son of Baladan, the king of Babylonia, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah for he heard that Hezekiah had been ill.
13 And Hezekiah listened to them, and he showed them his entire treasure-house, the silver, the gold, the spices, and the good oil, and the entire house in which he kept his vessels, and everything that was found in his treasuries; there was nothing that Hezekiah did not show them in his palace and in his kingdom.
14 And Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him, “What did these men say, and whence did they come to you?” And Hezekiah said, “They have come from a distant country-from Babylonia.”
15 And he said, “What did they see in your palace?” And Hezekiah said, “They saw everything that is in my palace. There was nothing that I did not show them in my treasuries.”
16 And Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hearken to the word of the Lord.
17 Behold a time will come when everything in your palace and what your forefathers have stored up, will be carried off to Babylonia; nothing shall remain,” said the Lord.
18 And they will take [some] of your sons, who will issue from you, whom you will beget, and they will be officers in the palace of the king of Babylonia.”
19 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the Lord that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Is it not so, if there will be peace and truth in my days?”
20 And the rest of the events of Hezekiah and all his mighty deeds, and how he made the conduit and the pool, and he brought the water into the city, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.
21 And Hezekiah slept with his forefathers, and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
