Chronicles On King Solomon’s Prayer

Most relevant to the current situation happening in the Holy Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael) at the aftermath of the terror attack by the terrorist group Hamas.

When your people go to war (v. 34).

To follow Your ways (v. 31).

Hear their prayer and their supplication… and forgive (v. 39).

“Solomon’s Prayer”

Then Solomon said, “Hashem said that He would dwell in the thick cloud.
6:1
I have built a house of habitation for You, and a foundation for Your dwelling forever.”

… “Blessed is Hashem, God of Israel, Who spoke with His word to my father David — and fulfilled with power — …

but I chose Jerusalem for My Name to be there, and I chose David to rule over My people Israel.’
:6
You, however, shall not build the Temple. Rather, your son, who will emerge from your loins — he will build the Temple for My Name.’
:9
He stood before the Altar of Hashem, in front of the entire congregation of Israel, and spread out his hands.
:12
… “Hashem, God of Israel, there is none like You, O God, in the heavens nor on the earth; Who preserves covenant and the kindness of Your servants who walk before You with all their heart,
:14
So now, Hashem, God of Israel, cause Your word that You spoke to Your servant David to come true.

“Would God truly dwell on earth with man? Behold, the heavens and the highest heavens cannot contain You, and surely not this Temple that I have built!
:19
And may You hear the supplications of Your servant and of Your people Israel, which they shall pray in this place; may You hear [it] from the place of Your habitation, from Heaven — may You hear and forgive.

may You hear from Heaven, may You act and judge Your servants, condemning the wicked party, to place [consequences of] his way upon his head, and vindicating the righteous party, to give him according to his righteousness.

“If the heavens are restrained and there be no rain, for they have sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and praise Your Name, and they repent from their sin so that You will respond to them,

may You hear from Heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants and Your people Israel, when You teach them the proper path in which they should walk, …

… — when he spreads out his hands [in prayer] toward this Temple, may You hear from Heaven, the foundation of Your abode, and forgive, and recompense every man according to his ways as You know his heart, for You alone know the hearts of people;

so that they may fear You, to follow Your ways, all the days that they live upon the land which You gave to our forefathers.

“Also a gentile who is not of Your people Israel, but will come from a distant land, for Your great Name’s sake and Your strong hand and Your outstretched arm, and [they] come to pray in this Temple —

may You hear from Heaven, the foundation of Your abode, and act according to all that the gentile calls out to You, …

“When they sin against You — for there is no man who never sins — …

may You hear their prayer and their supplications from Heaven, the foundation of Your abode, and carry out their judgment, and forgive Your people who sinned against You.

1Then Solomon said, “The Lord said that He would dwell in the thick darkness.
2But I have built You a House to dwell in; a settled place for You to dwell in forever.”
3And the king turned his face about and blessed all the congregation of Israel, and all the congregation of Israel stood.
4And he said, “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, Who spoke with His mouth to David my father, and has fulfilled it with His hand, saying:
5Since the day that I brought My people forth from the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a House, that My name might be therein, neither did I choose a man to be prince over My people Israel.
6And I chose Jerusalem that My name might be there, and I chose David to be over My people Israel.
7And it was in my father David’s heart [the desire] to build a House for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
8And the Lord said to David my father; Since it was in your heart to build a House to My name, you did well that it was in your heart.
9Nevertheless, you shall not build the House, but your son who will come forth out of your loins he shall build the House for My name.
10And the Lord has established His word that He spoke, and I have risen up in the place of David my father, and I have sat on the throne of Israel, as the Lord spoke, and I have built the House for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
11And I have set there the Ark, wherein is the Covenant of the Lord, which He made with the Children of Israel.”
12And he stood before the altar of the Lord opposite all the congregation of Israel, and he spread forth his hands.
13For Solomon had made a copper laver, which he had placed within the forecourt, five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and he stood on it and kneeled on his knees opposite all the congregation of Israel, and he spread forth his hands toward heaven.
14And he said, “Lord God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven or on earth, Who keeps the covenant and the kindness with Your servants, who walk before You with all their heart.
15For You have kept for Your servant David my father that which You spoke to him, and You spoke with Your mouth and fulfilled it with Your hand, as [it is] this day.
16And now, O Lord God of Israel, keep for Your servant, David my father, that which You spoke to him, saying, ‘You shall never lack a man before Me sitting on the throne of Israel, if only your children take heed to their way, to walk in My Law as you have walked before Me.’
17And now, O Lord God of Israel, let Your word come true, which You spoke to Your servant, to David.
18But will God indeed dwell with man on the earth? Behold the heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You; much less this House that I have built.
19And You shall turn to Your servant’s prayer and to his supplication, O Lord my God; to hearken to the cry and to the prayer that Your servant is praying before You.
20That Your eyes may be open toward this House day and night, toward the place in which You said that You would put Your name, to hearken to the prayer that Your servant will pray in this place.
21And You shall hearken to the supplications of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they will pray toward this place; You shall hear from Your abode, from heaven, and You shall hear and forgive.
22If a man sins against his neighbor, and an oath be exacted of him to cause him to swear, and he come and swear before Your altar in this House.
23You shall hear from heaven, and do, and judge Your servants, to recompense the wicked, to bring his way upon his head, and to justify the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.
24And if Your people Israel is struck down before the enemy because they sin against You, and they repent and confess to Your name and pray and make supplication before You in this House.
25You shall hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel and bring them back to the land that You gave to them and to their fathers.
26When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and confess to Your name, and repent of their sin, so that You may answer them.
27You shall hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your servants and Your people Israel, for You will teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and You shall give rain upon Your land, which You have given Your people for an inheritance.
28If there be famine in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blast, mildew, increasing locusts, finishing locusts, if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities, whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness [there be].
29Any prayer, any supplication, which will be [made] by any man or by all Your people Israel, every man shall know his plague and his pain, and spread forth his hands toward this House.
30You shall hear from heaven, Your dwelling, and forgive, and give to each man according to his ways, whose heart You know, for You alone know the hearts of the children of men.
31That they may fear You to go in Your ways all the days that they live on the face of the land that You gave our fathers.
32And also to the stranger, who is not of Your people Israel, but will come from a distant land because of Your great name, Your strong hand, and Your outstretched arm, and they will come and pray toward this House.
33You shall hear from heaven, from Your dwelling place, and You shall do whatever the stranger calls upon You, that all peoples of the earth may know Your name, to fear You, as [do] Your people Israel, and that they may know that Your name is called upon this House, which I have built.
34If Your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way You send them, and pray to You toward this city, which You have chosen, and the House that I have built for Your name.
35You shall hear from heaven their prayer and supplication and maintain their cause.
36If they sin against You, for there is no man who does not sin, and You will be angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, and their captors will carry them in captivity to a land, far or near.
37And they bethink themselves in the land where they were carried off into captivity, and repent and make supplications to You in the land of their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned; we have dealt perversely, and we have committed wickedness.’
38And they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity where they led them away captives, and pray toward their land, which You gave to their fathers, and the city that You chose, and toward the House that I built for Your name.
39You shall hear from heaven, from Your dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and You shall forgive Your people who sinned against You.
40Now, my God, may Your eyes now be open and Your ears attentive to the prayer of this place.
41And now, arise, O Lord God to Your resting place, You and the Ark of Your might; Your priests, O Lord God, shall be attired with salvation, and Your pious ones shall rejoice with the goodness.
42O Lord God, do not turn back the face of Your anointed one; remember the kind deeds of David Your servant.”
