I Kings Chapter 15 on the Basis of Not Doing What is Proper in the Eyes of Hashem

Idol Worship

The basis of one’s character and verdict.

For many items may spawn from it.

Number one, is Disobedience to G-d’s commands.
2. As a result of you having other god than the One True G-d of Israel alone, you will start making your own rules.
3. Thus, you begin justifying your wrongs to make it right.
4. Wickedness and evilness will be next to your nature; if not your nature.
5. Eventually, it will be so hard for you to accept or admit that you are wrong or mistaken.
6. Hence, you will disregard any teachings that expose you.
7. You may also influence others of your kin or people who are close or living with you.

“Jeroboam’s Horrible End Prophesied”
“Jeroboam Dies”
“Rehoboam Dies”

Go tell Jeroboam, Thus said Hashem, God of Israel: Inasmuch as I elevated you from the midst of the people and emplaced you as ruler over My people Israel,
14:7
and I tore away the kingship from the house of David and gave it to you, but you were not like My servant David, who kept My commandments and who went after Me with all his heart, to do only what is proper in My eyes.
:8
But you have acted more wickedly than any who were before you, and you went and made yourself the gods of others and molten images to anger Me, and you have cast Me behind your back.
:9
For Hashem will smite Israel as a reed lurches about in the water, and He will uproot Israel from upon this bountiful land that He gave to their forefathers, and He will scatter them beyond the [Euphrates] River — because they have made their Asherah-trees, angering Hashem.
:15
The duration of Jeroboam’s reign was twenty-two years; then he lay with his forefathers and Nadab his son reigned in his place.
:20
[The people of] Judah did evil in the eyes of Hashem, angering Him more than their ancestors had done with the sins they committed.
:22
They, too, built for themselves high places and pillars and Asherah-trees on every lofty hill and under every leafy tree.
:23
There was also prostitution in the land; they did all the abominations of the nations that Hashem had driven out from before the Children of Israel.
:24
There was warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam, all the days.
:30
Rehoboam lay with his forefathers and was buried with his forefathers in the City of David. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite. Abijam his son reigned in his place.
:31

“King of Judah, Abijam”
“King of Israel, Baasa”
“Asa Dies”
“King of Israel, Nadab”

In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king over Judah.
15:1
He went in [the way of] all the sins of his father that he had done before him; and his heart was not whole with Hashem, his God, as the heart of his forefather David [had been].
15:3
because David had done what is proper in the eyes of Hashem, and did not veer from all that He had commanded him all the days of his life (except for the matter of Uriah the Hittite).
:5
There was warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of [Abijam’s] life.
:6
Abijam lay with his forefathers, and they buried him in the City of David; Asa his son reigned in his place.
:8
Asa did what was proper in the eyes of Hashem, like his forefather David.
:11
He removed the prostitutes from the land, and removed all the idols that his forefathers had made.
:12
But they did not take away the high places; nevertheless, Asa’s heart was whole with Hashem all his days.
:14
There was warfare between Asa and Baasa, king of Israel, all their days.
:16
Asa lay with his forefathers and was buried with his forefathers, in the city of David his forefather; his son Jehoshaphat reigned in his place.
:24
Nadab son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in the second year of Asa, king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel for two years.
:25
He did evil in the eyes of Hashem, he went in the path of his father and his sins, by which he caused Israel to sin.
:26
Baasa killed him in the third year of Asa, king of Judah, and reigned in his place.
:28
It happened that when he became king he struck down the entire house of Jeroboam; he did not leave a soul in [the house of] Jeroboam, until he annihilated it, according to the word of Hashem, which He had spoken through the hand of His servant Ahijah the Shilonite,
:29
for the sins of Jeroboam that he had committed and cause Israel to commit, with his provocations by which he angered Hashem, God of Israel.
:30
There was warfare between Asa and Baasa king of Israel all their days.
:32

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
