Ezekiel On Tyre’s Fate

Just when you think you are invincible.

Anything can happen that may either lift you up or crash you down.

Hence, never be stubborn, proud or arrogant.

“A Lament For Tyre — Its Beauty Its Downfall”

“Now you, Son of Man, take up a lament for Tyre; and say to Tyre, which dwells at the harbors of the sea, merchant of the peoples to many islands: Thus said the Lord Hashem/Elohim: Tyre, you have said, ‘I am perfect in beauty.’
27:2-3
Judah and the Land of Israel, they were your peddlers: With wheat from Minnith, and balsam oil, honey, oil, and balm, they provided your merchandise.
:17
Merchants among the peoples whistled over you; You were a terror, but you shall be no more, forever.”
:27

1 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
2 “Now you, son of man, lift up a lament about Tyre.
3 And you shall say to Tyre: situated on the seaport, trafficker of the peoples to many isles; So said the Lord God: Tyre, you said, ‘I am the perfection of beauty.’
4 In the heart of the seas are your borders; your builders perfected your beauty.
5 Of junipers from Senir did they fashion you, all the planks; cedars from Lebanon they took to make a mast on you.
6 [Of] oaks from Bashan they made your oars; your rudder they made of ivory inlaid in cypresses from the isles of Kittim.
7 Linen with embroidery from Egypt was your sail, to be to you for a staff, blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was your covering.
8 The dwellers of Sidon and Arvad were your oarsmen; your wise men, O Tyre, were within you; they are your mariners.
9 The elders of Gebal and her wise men were within you, who repaired your cracks; all the ships of the sea and their mariners were within you, to guarantee your necessities.
10 Persia, Lud, and Put were in your army, your warriors; shield and helmet they hung in you, they provided your beauty.
11 The children of Arvad and your army upon your walls around and Gammadim were in your towers; their quivers they heaped on your walls around, they perfected your beauty.
12 Tarshish was your merchant because of the multitude of all riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they provided your aid.
13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech-they were your peddlers; with living people and copper vessels, they gave your necessities.
14 From the house of Togarmah, steeds, horsemen, and mules gave your strength.
15 The children of Dedan were your peddlers; the dwellers of many islands [brought] the merchandise of your place; horns, ivory, and peacocks they brought you as a gift.
16 Aram was your merchant because of the multitude of your works; with carbuncle, purple cloth, embroidery, fine linen, precious stones, and pearls, they gave into your treasurehouses.
17 Judea and the land of Israel-they are your peddlers; with wheat of Minnith, balsam trees, honey, oil, and balm, they gave your necessities.
18 Damascus was your merchant because of the multitude of your works, because of the multitude of all riches, with white wine and white wool.
19 Vedan and Javan gave spun silk into your treasure houses, iron wrought into ingots, cassia and calamus was in your stores.
20 Dedan was your trafficker; in precious raiment for chariots.
21 Arabia and all the princes of Kedar-they are the merchants of your place; with lambs, rams, and he-goats-with them did they deal with you.
22 The traffickers of Sheba and Raamah-they were your traffickers; with the best of all spices and with all precious stones and gold they gave your merchandise.
23 Haran, Canneh, and Eden, the traffickers of Sheba; Assyria and Media were your traffickers.
24 They were your traffickers with adornments, with wraps of blue cloth and embroidery, and with treasures kept in chests, tied with ropes, enclosed in myrtle wood-in them was your merchandise.
25 Ships of Tarshish were your plains, and you were filled, you became very heavy in the heart of the seas.
26 In the abundant waters, your oarsmen brought you; the east wind broke you in the heart of the seas.
27 Your wealth, your possessions, your merchandise, your sailors, and your mariners, those who strengthen your cracks, and those who do commerce with your merchandise, and all your warriors that are in you and in all your company that is in your midst, will fall into the heart of the sea on the day of your downfall.
28 To the sound of the cry of your mariners, the neighboring districts will quake.
29 And all who grasp an oar, oarsmen, all the mariners of the sea, will disembark from their ships; they will stand upon the land.
30 And they will cause their voice to be heard over you and cry out bitterly; they will cast up dust upon their heads; they will wallow in ashes.
31 And they will tear out their hair because of you, and they will gird themselves with sackcloth and weep over you with a bitter soul, with a bitter lamentation.
32 And they will lift up over you with their wailing a lamentation, and they will lament over you, “Who is like Tyre, as Dummah in the midst of the sea?”
33 When your merchandise came out of the sea, you sated many peoples; with the abundance of your riches and your possessions you made rich the kings of the earth.
34 At the time you are broken by the seas in the depth of the water, your possessions and all your company will have fallen into your midst.
35 All the island dwellers are astounded over you, and their kings were seized by trembling; their faces were angry.
36 Merchants of the peoples hissed over you; you were a terror, and will be no more, forever.”
