THE TORAH
EXODUS
SHEMOT
The book of Exodus, known as Shemot in Hebrew, is the second book of the Torah. It continues the narrative of the Israelites’ journey and their development as a nation after the book of Genesis.
The book of Exodus chronicles the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, the revelation of the Ten Commandments and the establishment of the covenant at Mount Sinai, and the journey towards the Promised Land. It highlights the leadership of Moses, the miracles performed by G-d, and the development of the Israelite nation as a chosen people.
Chapter 6
Exodus Chapter 6 is G-d’s Reassurance of His Promise to His People that is about to be Fulfilled
And it is at a great price…

Hashem said to Moses, “Now you will see what I shall do to Pharaoh, for through a strong hand will he send them out, and with a strong hand will he drive them from his land.”
6:1
God spoke to Moses and said to him, “I am Hashem. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El Shaddai, but with My Name Hashem I did not make Myself known to them.
:2-3
Moreover, I have heard the groan of the Children of Israel whom Egypt enslaves and I have remembered My covenant.
:5
I shall take you to Me for a people and I shall be a God to you; and you shall know that I am Hashem your God, Who takes you out from under the burdens of Egypt.
:7
I shall bring you to the land about which I raised My hand to give it to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I shall give it to you as a heritage – I am Hashem.’”
:8
Moses spoke before Hashem, saying, “Behold, the Children of Israel have not listened to me, so how will Pharaoh listen to me? And I have sealed lips!”
:12
Moses said before Hashem, “Behold! I have sealed lips, so how shall Pharaoh heed me?”
:30
1 And the Lord said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh, for with a mighty hand he will send them out, and with a mighty hand he will drive them out of his land.”
2 God spoke to Moses, and He said to him, “I am the Lord.
3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob with [the name] Almighty God, but [with] My name YHWH, I did not become known to them.
4 And also, I established My covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings in which they sojourned.
5 And also, I heard the moans of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians are holding in bondage, and I remembered My covenant.
6 Therefore, say to the children of Israel, ‘I am the Lord, and I will take you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will save you from their labor, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.
7 And I will take you to Me as a people, and I will be a God to you, and you will know that I am the Lord your God, Who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
8 I will bring you to the land, concerning which I raised My hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and I will give it to you as a heritage; I am the Lord.’ “
9 Moses spoke thus to the children of Israel, but they did not hearken to Moses because of [their] shortness of breath and because of [their] hard labor.
10 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
11 “Come, speak to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and he will let the children of Israel out of his land.”
12 But Moses spoke before the Lord, saying, “Behold, the children of Israel did not hearken to me. How then will Pharaoh hearken to me, seeing that I am of closed lips?”
13 So the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, and He commanded them concerning the children of Israel and concerning Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, to let the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
14 These [following] are the heads of the fathers’ houses: The sons of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn: Enoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Karmi, these are the families of Reuben.
15 And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jachin and Zohar and Saul, the son of the Canaanitess, these are the families of Simeon.
16 And these are the names of Levi’s sons after their generations: Gershon, Kehath, and Merari, and the years of Levi’s life were one hundred thirty seven years.
17 The sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei to their families.
18 And the sons of Kehath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, and the years of Kehath’s life were one hundred thirty three years.
19 And the sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi; these are the families of the Levites according to their generations.
20 Amram took Jochebed, his aunt, as his wife, and she bore him Aaron and Moses, and the years of Amram’s life were one hundred thirty seven years.
21 And the sons of Izhar were Korah and Nepheg and Zichri.
22 And the sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri.
23 Aaron took to himself for a wife, Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab, the sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
24 And the sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph; these are the families of the Korahites.
25 Eleazar, the son of Aaron, took himself [one] of the daughters of Putiel to himself as a wife, and she bore him Phinehas; these are the heads of the fathers’ [houses] of the Levites according to their families.
26 That is Aaron and Moses, to whom the Lord said, “Take the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt with their legions.”
27 They are the ones who spoke to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, to let the children of Israel out of Egypt; they are Moses and Aaron.
28 Now it came to pass on the day that the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt,
29 that the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “I am the Lord. Speak to Pharaoh everything that I speak to you.”
30 But Moses said before the Lord, “Behold, I am of closed lips; so how will Pharaoh hearken to me?”

TORAH
(Law)
The book of Deuteronomy, also known as Devarim in Hebrew (“Words”), is the fifth book of the Hebrew Bible or the Christian Old Testament. It contains a series of speeches by Moses to the Israelites, just before they are about to enter the promised land, which summarize and expand upon many of the laws and commandments given in the earlier books of the Torah. The word Deuteronomy literally means “second law,” indicating that Moses is rehearsing the law with the Israelites before they enter the land.
The book is often seen as a sort of farewell address by Moses, containing some of his final instructions and blessings to the people he has led for many years. It emphasizes the importance of following G-d’s commandments and remaining faithful to Him, while warning against the dangers of disobedience and idolatry. Overall, Deuteronomy serves as a significant text in the history of Judaism and Christianity, containing many of the foundational beliefs and values of these religions.
