Exodus Chapter 23

THE TORAH

EXODUS

SHEMOT

The book of Exodus, known as Shemot in Hebrew, is the second book of the Torah. It continues the narrative of the Israelites’ journey and their development as a nation after the book of Genesis.

The book of Exodus chronicles the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, the revelation of the Ten Commandments and the establishment of the covenant at Mount Sinai, and the journey towards the Promised Land. It highlights the leadership of Moses, the miracles performed by G-d, and the development of the Israelite nation as a chosen people.

Chapter 23

Exodus Chapter 23 Makes it Clear in verse 13 and 25, Whom Shall You Worship

The G-d Of Israel Is The G-d Of Justice

The G-ds Of Others You Shall Not Mention

*Reminder — G-d is One and Alone.

You do not have to be intelligent to know that He is not G-d the Son and so much of complication, like 1 but 3 or 3-in-1.

“The Judicial Process — Its Integrity”
“Fair Justice”
“The Sabbath of the Land and the Week”
“The Three Pilgrimage Festivals”
“The Promise of Swift Passage to, and Conquest of the Land”

Do not accept a false report, do not extend your hand with the wicked to be a venal witness.
23:1
Do not be a follower of the majority for evil; …
23:2
Do not glorify a destitute person in his grievance.
23:3
If you encounter an ox of your enemy or his donkey wandering, you shall return it to him repeatedly.
:4
Do not accept a bribe, for the bribe will blind those who see and corrupt words that are just.
:8
Six days shall you accomplish your activities, and on the seventh day you shall desist, so that your ox and donkey may be content and your maidservant’s son and the sojourner may be refreshed.
:12
Be careful regarding everything I have said to you. The name of the gods of others you shall not mention, nor shall your mouth cause it to be heard.
:13
Three pilgrimage festivals shall you celebrate for Me during the year.
:14
The choicest first fruit of your land shall you bring to the House of Hashem, your God; you shall not cook a kid in the milk of its mother.
:19
Behold! I send an angel before you to protect you on the way, and to bring you to the place that I have made ready.
:20
For if you hearken to his voice and carry out all that I shall speak, then I shall be the enemy of your enemies and persecute your persecutors.
:22
For My angel shall go before you and bring you…
:23
Do not prostrate yourself to their gods, do not worship them, and do not act according to their practices; rather, you shall tear them apart, and you shall smash their pillars.
:24
You shall worship Hashem, your God, and He shall bless your bread and your water, and I shall remove illness from your midst.
:25
Little by little shall I drive them away from you, until you become fruitful and make the Land your heritage.
:30
You shall not seal a covenant with them or their gods.
:32
They shall not dwell in your Land lest they cause you to sin against Me, that you will worship their gods, for it will be a trap for you.
:33

1 You shall not accept a false report; do not place your hand with a wicked person to be a false witness.
2 You shall not follow the majority for evil, and you shall not respond concerning a lawsuit to follow many to pervert [justice].
3 Neither shall you glorify a poor man in his lawsuit.
4 If you come upon your enemy’s bull or his stray donkey, you shall surely return it to him.
5 If you see your enemy’s donkey lying under its burden would you refrain from helping him? You shall surely help along with him.
6 You shall not pervert the judgment of your poor man in his lawsuit.
7 Distance yourself from a false matter; and do not kill a truly innocent person or one who has been declared innocent, for I will not vindicate a guilty person.
8 You shall not accept a bribe, for a bribe will blind the clear sighted and corrupt words that are right.
9 And you shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the feelings of the stranger, since you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
10 Six years you may sow your land and gather in its produce.
11 But in the seventh [year] you shall release it and abandon it; the poor of your people shall eat [it], and what they leave over, the beasts of the field shall eat. So shall you do to your vineyard [and] to your olive tree[s].
12 Six days you may do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest, in order that your ox and your donkey shall rest, and your maidservant’s son and the stranger shall be refreshed.
13 Concerning all that I have said to you you shall beware, and the name of the gods of others you shall not mention; it shall not be heard through your mouth.
14 Three times you shall slaughter sacrifices to Me during the year.
15 You shall observe the festival of unleavened bread; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread as I have commanded you, at the appointed time of the month of springtime, for then you left Egypt, and they shall not appear before Me empty handed.
16 And the festival of the harvest, the first fruits of your labors, which you will sow in the field, and the festival of the ingathering at the departure of the year, when you gather in [the products of] your labors from the field.
17 Three times during the year, all your males shall appear before the Master, the Lord.
18 You shall not sacrifice the blood of My sacrifice with leaven, and the fat of My festive sacrifice shall not stay overnight until morning.
19 The choicest of the first fruits of your soil you shall bring to the house of the Lord, your God. You shall not cook a kid in its mother’s milk.
20 Behold, I am sending an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared.
21 Beware of him and obey him; do not rebel against him, for he will not forgive your transgression, for My Name is within him.
22 For if you hearken to his voice and do all that I say, I will hate your enemies and oppress your adversaries.
23 For My angel will go before you, and bring you to the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivvites, and the Jebusites, and I will destroy them.
24 You shall not prostrate yourself before their gods, and you shall not worship them, and you shall not follow their practices, but you shall tear them down and you shall utterly shatter their monuments.
25 And you shall worship the Lord, your God, and He will bless your food and your drink, and I will remove illness from your midst.
26 There will be no bereaved or barren woman in your land; I will fill the number of your days.
27 I will send My fear before you, and I will confuse all the people among whom you shall come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.
28 And I will send the tzir’ah before you, and it will drive out the Hivvites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites from before you.
29 I will not drive them away from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field outnumber you.
30 I will drive them out from before you little by little, until you have increased and can occupy the land.
31 And I will make your boundary from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the river, for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hands, and you shall drive them out from before you.
32 You shall not form a covenant for them or for their gods.
33 They shall not dwell in your land, lest they cause you to sin against Me, that you will worship their gods, which will be a snare for you.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
