Amos Chapter 4 How G-d Works in the World for Your Own Good

Amos — Yet You Have Not Returned To Me — The Word Of Hashem

G-d may allow you to prosper or suffer. Either or both of which are for you to return or remain to Him; not otherwise.

There are reasons to rebel against G-d. But it does not even come close to tons of reasons why you need to serve, worship and love the L-rd your G-d with all of your heart, with all of your soul, and with all of your resources.

“Blind To The Truth”

Hear this prophecy, you cows of Bashan who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the destitute, who say to their lords, “Bring, so we may drink!”
4:1
Come to Beth-el and rebel; in Gilgal rebel greatly! Bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes for three days;
4:4
Also, I have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities and lack of bread in all your places; yet you have not returned to Me — the word of Hashem.
:6
Also, I have withheld the rain from you three months before the harvest; and I brought down rain upon one city, but upon another city I did not bring rain; one area was rained upon, and the area that did not receive rain will wither.
:7
… yet you have not returned to Me — the word of Hashem.
:6, 8, 9, 10 & 11
Therefore, thus will I do to you, O Israel; [and] because I do this to you, prepare [to go] towards your God, O Israel.
:12
For behold, He forms mountains and creates winds; He recounts to a person what were his deeds; He turns the dawn into darkness and tramples upon the heights of the earth; Hashem, God of Legions, is His Name.
:13

1 Hearken to this word, O cows of Bashan which are on Mount Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their lords, “Bring that we may drink.”
2 The Lord God has sworn by His holy [abode] that, behold, days are coming upon you, and you shall be borne on shields, and your posterity in fishing boats.
3 And [through the] breaches they shall emerge, each woman straight before her, and you shall cast off the haughtiness, says the Lord.
4 Come to Bethel and rebel, to Gilgal and multiply rebellion, and bring your sacrifices in the morning, every three days your tithes.
5 And offer up a thanksgiving offering of leaven, and proclaim and publish the freewill offerings, for so you love, O children of Israel, says the Lord God.
6 And also I have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places, but you have not returned to Me, says the Lord.
7 And I also withheld the rain from you when there were yet three months before the harvest, and I will cause to rain on one city, and on one city I will not cause to rain; one field shall receive rain, and the field upon which no rain shall fall, shall wither.
8 And two or three cities wandered into one city to drink water, but they shall not be sated, but you have not returned to Me, says the Lord.
9 I smote you with blast and with yellowing; the increase of your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees the shearing locust has devoured, but you have not returned to Me, says the Lord.
10 I sent a pestilence upon you after the manner of Egypt; I slew your young men with the sword, with the captivity of your horses, and I caused the stench of your camps to rise, and in your nostrils, but you have not returned to Me, says the Lord.
11 I have overthrown some of you like God’s overthrow of Sodom and Gemorrah, and you were like a brand plucked from burning, but you have not returned to Me, says the Lord.
12 Therefore, so will I do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare yourself to meet your God, O Israel.
13 For behold, He forms mountains and creates the wind, and declares to man what his speech is; He makes dawn into darkness, and treads on the high places of the earth; the Lord God of Hosts is His Name.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
