I Samuel Chapter 5

THE PROPHETS

I SAMUEL

SHMUEL I

The Books of I and II Samuel, also known as the Books of Samuel (originally one book), recount the life and times of the prophet Samuel, the establishment of the Israelite monarchy, and the reigns of the first two kings of Israel, Saul and David. They provide insights into the political, religious, and social aspects of ancient Israel during that period. Samuel (Shmuel in Hebrew) anointed both Saul and David as kings of Israel with the approval of G-d and at His command.

Samuel is the greatest of all the judges, and a prophet who was of the same stature of Moses and Aaron.

The most coverage of this book in its context is centered in the life of David. Known as man of faith, unselfish leader, great warrior, loyal friend, compassionate in victory, humble in defeat, and model of repentance.

Chapter 5

I Samuel Chapter 5 Weighs the Matter of True Venerated or Holy Object Against the False

Statues And Images Of Animal Or Human That Are Worshiped Or Venerated

Both are considered Idol Worship in the eyes of G-d

But having another G-d as Jesus, the Son, Trinity or 3-in-1 God is even worst than this (Exo. 20:1-3).

The Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) is very clear about this matter.

“The Ark Wreaks Havoc”

The Philistines had taken the Ark of God and brought it from Eben-ezer to Ashdod.
5:1
The Philistines took the Ark of God and brought it to the House of Dagon, placing it next to Dagon.
5:2
The Ashdodites arose early the next day and behold, Dagon had fallen upon its face to the ground, before the Ark of Hashem. So they took Dagon and returned it to its place.
5:3
The hand of Hashem then became heavy against the Ashdodites, and He devastated them; He struck them — the Ashdod and its surrounding areas — with hemorrhoids.
:6
They then sent the Ark of Hashem to Ekron. It happened when the Ark of God arrived in Ekron that the people of Ekron cried out saying, “They have transferred to me the Ark of the God of Israel, to kill me and my people!”
:10
So they summoned and gathered all the governors of the Philistines and said [to them], “Send away the Ark of the God of Israel. Let it return to its place and not kill me and my people!” For there was panic of death in the whole city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
:11
The people who did not die were stricken with hemorrhoids, and the cry of the city ascended to heaven.
:12

1 Now, the Philistines had taken the Ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.
2 And the Philistines took the Ark of God and brought it to the house of Dagon, and set it up beside Dagon.
3 And the Ashdodites arose early on the morrow, and behold, Dagon was falling face downward to the ground before the Ark of the Lord, and they returned him to his place.
4 And they arose early the next morning, and behold, Dagon was falling face downward to the ground, before the Ark of the Lord, and Dagon’s head and the two palms of his hands were cut off, (and lying) on the threshold; only Dagon(‘s trunk) alone remained upon him.
5 Therefore, the priests of Dagon and all those who come to the house of Dagon, do not tread upon the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod until this day.
6 And the hand of the Lord became heavy upon the Ashdodites, and He ravaged them, and He smote them with hemorrhoids, Ashdod and its borders.
7 And the people of Ashdod saw that it was so, and they said, “Let not the Ark of the God of Israel dwell with us, for His hand is severe upon us and upon Dagon, our god.
8 And they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and they said, “What shall we do to the Ark of the God of Israel?” And they said, “Let the Ark of the God of Israel be brought around to Gath,” and (thereupon), they brought the Ark of the God of Israel around to Gath.
9 And it was, after they had brought it around, that the hand of the Lord was upon the city (with) a great panic, and He smote the people of the city, both young and old, and hemorrhoids broke out in their hidden parts.
10 And they sent away the Ark of God to Ekron, and it was that when the Ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, “They have brought around the Ark of the God of Israel to me to kill me and my people.
11 And they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, “Send away the Ark of the God of Israel, and let it return to its place, so that it will not kill me and my people,” for there was a panic of death in the entire city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
12 And the people who did not die, were smitten with hemorrhoids, and the cry of the city ascended to heaven.

Bible reading in the form of Scripture in pictures can have a profound impact on those who may have never read a chapter in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Viewing pivotal verses in a visual context can deepen one’s understanding of the text and provide a unique perspective. The images may help to illustrate important themes and messages that may not have been as easily grasped through standard reading. Additionally, this method can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle with traditional reading methods or for those who are more visually inclined. The power of visual storytelling has been utilized for centuries, and when paired with the timeless words of Scripture, it has the potential to bring new life and meaning to the ancient text. Ultimately, whatever method one chooses to engage with the Bible, the most important thing is to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word, and to apply it to our lives in a meaningful way.
